it is interesting that as Paul continues in chapter 14 Tongues seems to be seen over and over again. We have been discussing this in our preachers meeting. Most believe that the miraculous age has ceased, that being the perfect. But y'all brought some awesome points about the attitude that is shown, that being love. We need to mature, grow up in our love for one another. Hebrews shows this...they should have been mature enough to teach others, but they needed to be taught all over again the first principles....things that they should have been going on from. Amen brothers, Amen.

Have you found other biblical text that are in support of the cessation view? I have not and am wrestling with the church of christ views on holy spirit in general. Would love to hear you go deeper on this, thanks for the podcast.

I would say the cessation view is primarily based on experience, with Scripture used in an "eisegetical" way to support what people have experienced. I think what Scripture actually teaches about the Spirit's work is that he empowers and gifts as he sees fits, as is needed for the situation. So, I don't think any generation of believers should expect the Spirit to work in a specific way during their lifetime, but also should not insist that he cannot work in a specific way.

Also, our common view on what counts as "miraculous" is usually rooted in modern Western enlightenment thinking. https://www.radicallychristian.com/p/how-the-bible-defines-a-miracle

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have struggled with the common interpretation on 1 Corinthians 13:10 for years. I love this discussion.
